Paxcroft Mead News - January 2008

From the Editor

Happy New Year and I hope you all had a good Christmas.

Since things haven't really got going yet after the holidays, this newsletter is a relatively short and sweet.

The success of any newsletter depends on two things.  First the content must be interesting and relevant, and secondly, the newsletter must be distributed to as many people as possible.  There are a number of regular contributors to the newsletter, which is fine, but "variety is the spice of life".  So if you have a story or event you would like to share in the newsletter, please send your contribution via email to editor@paxcroftmead.org.uk or post it or drop it in to:-
The Editor, Paxcroft Mead Community Centre, Hackett Place, Trowbridge, BA14 7GW.

To ensure we have the largest possible distribution, perhaps you could forward the newsletter on to friends and neighbours and encourage them sign up to the emailing list via our website - http://www.paxcroftmead.org.uk/contact_form.htm

Trowbridge Archaeological Group

This month we welcome the newly formed Trowbridge Archaeological Group (TAG) to the Community Centre.  The group's philosophy is that archaeology should be as accessible as possible to the public.  One of the founder members, Cathy Warner reports that on a number of occasions when people heard about my hobby, they said, "Oh I love Time Team, but I don't know enough to get involved".  My view is it doesn't matter how much or little you know so long as you are interested.

TAG hopes to have our own projects in the near future, but are starting off with some lectures, outings and hopefully, some field walking in the spring.

TAG's inaugural meeting is on Tuesday 22nd January at 7.45pm in the Paxcroft Mead Community Centre.
The speaker is Dr Joshua Pollard, Head of Archaeology and Anthropology at Bristol University, who will be talking about the Stonehenge Riverside Project.  Over the last few years he has been involved in fieldwork around the Neolithic monument complexes of Avebury and Stonehenge.
The Riverside Project's aim is to understand the local and regional context of Stonehenge, not as a monument in isolation, but as part of a more extensive 3rd and early 2nd millennium BC ceremonial complex focused on the River Avon.

Further information is available on the TAG website - www.trowbridgearchaeology.co.uk or you can send an email to tagba14@btinternet.com.
The events will be free to members (membership will be available on the night) Membership is £15 - it is hoped to keep events free to members.

Tickets to non-members for this event are £5 per person.

Messy Monsters at Paxcroft Mead

Messy Monsters Logo

Messy Monsters Art Club leads the way in messy educational and fun activities.  Messy monsters provides you and your child with a unique experience.  You can both be involved in exciting art, craft and messy play activities, in a relaxed, safe and secure environment.  Children will get the chance to work with many different art & craft materials and spend some quality time with you and other children.

The activities are carefully planned and are age appropriate to help your child reach their full potential.  Sessions are fun, friendly and suitable for babies and children aged from six months to five years.

Messy Monsters are available for children's parties.  We will bring all the fun of Messy Monsters Art Club direct to you.
Party prices vary depending on the activities requested for the day.  We will provide all the materials, aprons and the actvities for the party, alternatively we can create a theme for the activities based on yours and more importantly, your child's wishes.
All you have to do is provide the venue - we will even give you the invitations to send out!
Messy Monsters Parties are also open to non-members.

Sessions are held every Wednesday morning during term-time.
Baby Monster sessions are 10:30am - 11:15am and Messy Monsters are 11:30am - 12:20pm.

If you are interested in being a Messy Monster or holding a Messy Monster Birthday Party, please contact Sarah on 01225 759207 or via email.  Please note places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

For full details, have a look at the Messy Monsters Bath website or the Paxcroft Mead website.
