Paxcroft Mead News - August 2007 |
Our treasurer and general workhorse, Jack Pope has decided to return to his homeland (USA).
Jack has worked hard for the Paxcroft Mead Management Committee over the last four years.
During this time his main role was treasurer, but he has also been booking secretary and chairman amongst other things.
At the last PMCC committee meeting, Jack was presented with a number of mementos of his time at the Community Centre. These included a framed aerial photograph of the Centre taken by committee member and helicopter pilot, Ron Watkins and a specially written poem, "Ode to Jack Pope", written by Jane Wosika.
Jack and his wife, Susan will be leaving in October.
The Committee is pleased to welcome Paul Mansfield who has agreed to take over from Jack as treasurer.
Each year, the Heritage Open Days scheme arranges for a number of properties across the U.K. that are either generally closed to the public, to open their doors and for others to waive their admission charges for the day.
In previous years, buildings that opened in the Trowbridge area included Trowbridge Town Hall and the Blind House. Members of the Trowbridge Civic Society often help out as guides. (www.trowbridgecivicsociety.org.uk)
You can find further details in the local press or visit the Heritage Open Days Website.

When choosing the priorities, a fair amount of weight is attached to the number of times a nuisance has been registered on the police system. This means that to get our concerns to the top of the list, it would help if we reported everything that bothered us. This can be done by ringing 0845 408 7000. We are told this has been a slow and tedious process, but that it is improving quickly as the new staff get used to it. As well as helping with priorities, patterns may be come visible and this can help in establishing solutions.
Every Tuesday morning the Coffee Club meets in the Community Centre. The club doesn't have a fixed agenda - it is there for residents to come along, have a chat and enjoy each other's company. There are no rules except that you have to be an adult.
The Club has proved to be very useful to residents new to the area, giving them an introduction to other residents and also to a wealth of local information and advice.
If you fancy coming along, just turn up at 10:30 am or if you prefer, Glen Dudley will arrange introductions.
Glen can be contacted by 'phone on 01225 761973.
