I want a BMX/Skate Park on Paxcroft Mead
- get your petition kit here
One of the first things people wanted to talk about when we started the Community Forum was that there isn't enough for older kids to do on Paxcroft Mead. We wanted to do something about that and we decided that a BMX/Skate Park would be a good idea because it would provide two things that we think kids need: an exciting, healthy activity and a place to meet up that is their own space.
We have identified a good site - in the corner of the Cricket Field behind the Community Centre - and have held meetings with councillors, planning officers and specialist builders. We are getting ready to apply for planning permission from Wiltshire Council. One of the things we will have to show is that a lot of local people think that the BMX/Skate Park is a good idea and that a lot of local kids really want it to happen.
The obvious way of doing this is to collect names and addresses on a petition and we started this at the coffee morning on Saturday 9th April. You can help us by downloading a copy of the mini-petition and persuading your friends and family to sign up. You can also download a leaflet to help you explain the idea. Once your sheet is full, you need to pop it through the letter box at 85 Cornbrash Rise. Just the fact of having lots of mini-petitions that kids themselves have worked to fill will help us prove that the kids of Paxcroft Mead really care about this issue.
The hard work will really start when we get planning permission, because it's down to us to raise the money to pay for it. Some of the money will come from applying for grants from charitable trusts and council funds and the petition will come in useful there too, because they will want proof that local people really support the idea. They will also want to see that we are prepared to raise some money of our own, so we need to start thinking about how we could do this.
For now, the main thing is to collect as many names and addresses as we can for the petition. We were really impressed by the kids who came to the coffee morning. They really worked hard that weekend and the petition is off to a great start. We need your help and we know you can do it. Download your petition kit today and help us make it happen.
