Paxcroft Mead Community Centre Management

The role of the Management Committee

The core membership of the Management Committee is elected at the Community Centre Annual General Meeting.  In addition there are appointed and co-opted members.  All committee members are unpaid volunteers.

Apart from the day-to-day administration tasks, one of the main roles of the Management Committee is to look after the Centre - both the fabric of the building and its users.  There are currently 11 regular user groups from the Mother & Toddler Group to the weekly Tuesday Coffee Club.  These users and other hirers are managed by the Booking Secretary.  The Mead Club is also resident in the Community Centre.

The building itself takes much time and money, with the maintenance being managed by a small team of Management Committee members and other helpers.  Wherever possible day-to-day maintenance is carried out by team members with some “expert” help.  However as the building is deemed to be public, we are governed by many rules that dictate that only qualified engineers are able to rectify faults on, for example, the heating and electrical systems.

It can be seen that all this requires a lot of regular income to keep the building going.  Apart from the maintenance we have all the usual outgoings - fuel, insurance, cleaning etc.
Most of the funding comes from the hire of the premises.  The Mead Club makes very significant regular monthly contributions, and from time to time makes welcome donations towards particular projects.

Charitable Status

Just prior to the 2008 AGM, the Community Centre was awarded charitable status.
Now we have charitable status, the general running of the Centre will become easier with the possibility of grant aid and sponsorship providing funds for some of the more major projects.
