Paxcroft Mead News
Starting on Monday 8th August, the floor in Hall 1 is being renewed. The hall will be unavailable all week.
For a while now, the floor has been uneven in places and damaged where the sliding doors dropped. The doors have been sorted out now and we look forward to a brand new look and feel when we re-open.
On Saturday 13th August, we are doing a deep clean of the kitchen and toilet areas. If you could help out, it would be appreciated. If you can help, please drop us an email at info@paxcroftmead.org.uk.
The Community Centre committee has purchased Hall Booking software from Avalon Software in Glastonbury. We have been trying out the software for a month or so and our Booking Secretary, Don Hatt is extremely pleased with it. It allows much tighter control of hall bookings and can automatically produce booking confirmations, invoices etc. We have also invested in a Web Publishing option which will allow us to publish a bookings calender on the website, so that prospective hirers can check availability without having to contact Don.
Top Teacher from Paxcroft Mead
Helen Tate is a teacher at The Mead Primary School and has just won the Wiltshire's Best Teacher award by coming top in a Wiltshire Times poll. Helen is also a resident of Paxcroft Mead where she lives with her husband and two children.
Congratulations and enjoy your pampering prize.

Welcome back to Mark Hough who has been unwell for a while.
We have seen increases in antisocial behaviour in the Paxcroft Mead area and this has been made a priority by the Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The actual crime figures show only 4 reported crimes in the Trowbridge Rural beat area of Paxcroft Mead. These are 1 incidence of anti-social behaviour, 1 incidence of child bullying, 1 incidence of criminal damage (car scratched) and 1 domestic incident.
We cannot stress how important it is to report any crime, how ever minor it appears. Unless the Police know about it they cannot be expected to do anything about it, but perhaps more importantly, if they are aware of incidents, they can start to build a picture of particular types of crime in an area. This may help in tracking down the culprits.
At the time of writing no police consultations for August are showing on the police website.
New Trowbridge Reporter for Wiltshire Times
Mike Wilkinson recently contacted us to introduce himself as the new Trowbridge reporter at the Wiltshire Times. He says, “I would welcome anyone who has a story or event to contact me, Mike Wilkinson, on 01225 773645 or by e-mail to mwilkinson@wiltshiretimes.co.uk. The Wiltshire Times is always interested in hearing the stories of local people from the estate.”
Mead School recognised as one of nation's very best
As the Mead School approaches its 10th birthday it has much to celebrate!
This week, following an Ofsted inspection, it is one of the few schools that can boast an Outstanding rating for all aspects of its work.
Lyssy Bolton has led the school for 10 years and her leadership and management of the school is highly commended by Ofsted. Mrs Bolton and her team are “enthusiastic and highly aspirational professionals” who are well trained and this has led to an “excellent learning culture” and the ability to provide “an outstanding learning experience for all pupils”.
David Edwards, HMI, praised the children's outstanding learning and progress and their exemplary behaviour. The report describes how motivated the children are by the fantastic experiences provided by the school, and the inspectors say they were particularly impressed by the children's enthusiasm and how well they play together. The children's singing and the wonderful opportunities available to them in the “amazing” learning environment indoors and outdoors were noted.
Not only has the Mead achieved a second Outstanding Rating in 4 years but it successfully amalgamated with Wingfield C of E Primary School in 2009 and provision at the Wingfield site is already outstanding with comparable provision across both sites.
This might be enough for any school to celebrate, but this week the school was designated one of the first Teaching Schools - one of only 100 schools nationally (and only 36 primaries). As a teaching school The Mead has been recognised as one of the outstanding providers of education and teacher training in the country and will help shape this flagship initiative. Over time teaching schools will harness the finest talent in the profession to drive school improvement. This will bring real benefits to pupils at The Mead and beyond.
Education Secretary Michael Gove said: “I am delighted we have the first hundred of the best schools in the country, led by the best heads, becoming teaching schools from this September”.
On September 9th the School will bury a time capsule to celebrate its 10th birthday in the presence of Stephanie Denovan, local councillors and the whole school community. On Saturday 10th September the whole community, children and staff past and present are invited to a Party in the school grounds (Click here for details).
“We are so proud of our school and all it has achieved in the last 10 years we wanted to do something really special” said Melanie Jacob, Chair of Governors “This kind of achievement doesn't happen by accident, Mrs Bolton and all the staff at the school work incredibly hard and we are thrilled that this has been recognised”.
