Community Centre flooring and Electrical improvements
The work to replace the main hall flooring is now complete and the new surface really transforms the hall.
The committee decided to invest in an underlay for the new floor to make it slightly more bouncy. The Short Mat Bowling Club and the Zumba classes have already commented on the vast improvement.
The Management Committee has also completed some changes to the electrical systems, bringing things up to date with the new regulations. In addition, some of the external emergency lights have been replaced with recessed units which should last longer.
Sensors have also been fitted in all the toilet areas so that lights will turn on as soon as someone enters, but they will also switch off after a delay. This will save the Community Centre money in the long run, as these lights are regularly left switched on overnight.
Debbie Bensley, who runs Tumble Tots in the Community Centre has sent in details of classes for the new term.
Gymbabes
If you want to encourage your baby's physical development, boost their confidence and offer a stimulating new environment, check out your local Gymbabes classes. They are tailor-made for babies from six months who are just discovering their own bodies and all the wonderful things they can do with them.
The Gymbabe programme is for babies who are 6 months up to walking. It is a class where parents participate and work closely with their child in a safe environment filled with challenges for the developing baby. Gymbabes helps babies to develop the skills needed to sit, crawl, stand and eventually walk with confidence.
Babies learn to get over and around objects, explore the concept of steps, slopes and bridges and experience the sensations of rolling and sliding.
As the parent works closely with their child their relationship with their baby is developed along with the babies trust in his/her own body - the first stage on the journey to independence.
The 40 minute class also includes baby massage and body recognition songs and rhymes.
For 6 months to walking - starts at 9.40am.
Tumble Tots
Help your child develop the vital physical skills and confidence needed for life with Tumble Tots, Britain's leading active physical play programme. Building your child's confidence for life is central to the ethos of Tumble Tots and a key element of this is the development of motor skills.
All young children need to grow, to learn and to move at a rate they find comfortable. Each Tumble Tots session combines fun, excitement and challenge in a safe and caring environment.
All sessions use unique equipment carefully selected to develop a child's general motor skills offering children unlimited challenges for developing climbing, swinging, locomotion and crawling skills.
Classes are run by leaders specially trained to get the best out of your child, the design of the equipment layout matches each child's age and skillset. This allows children to develop at their own pace whilst gently challenging and stretching them at appropriate times.
Every two weeks the equipment layouts are changed and fresh layouts are introduced to encourage new skills. This gives children plenty of time to consolidate what they have learned and the incentive to master fresh challenges when they are ready. From the age of two, the equipment is arranged in four groups or &ldquot;stations”, each focusing on a different skill: climbing, balance, agility and co-ordination.
Circle time is an essential ingredient of every Tumble Tots session. Once again, they are planned specifically with different age groups in mind. Walking to two years focuses on body identification rhymes and action songs. Older groups learn to develop a warm-up ethos through action songs and are encouraged to develop the confidence to talk within a group through simple question and answer sessions, providing essential listening and language skills so useful in school and later life.
45 minute classes for:
Walking - 2 years | 10.35am |
2 - 3 years | 11.35am |
3 years to school | 12.45pm |

The Mead Community Primary School - 10th Birthday Party
We are excited to be celebrating our 10th birthday and would like to invite all staff and children and their families, past and present, to join us for a special celebration on Saturday, September 10th. We will have a big marquee and a special showcase of children performing along with local band ‘5 a Day’. There will be entertainment for children and adults, and a chance to enjoy the afternoon with family and friends. With a hog roast and bar this is sure to be a party to remember! Fun starts at 12.30pm!
The Emergency Services Show 2011
The show is supported by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Wiltshire Police and the Great Western Ambulance Service; with the primary aim of educating members of the public about many aspects of community safety. Whilst our respective organisations strongly support this event, we receive no direct funding from them or the government, and are totally reliant on the goodwill of our sponsors and supporters, as well as our visitors of course.
This is a spectacular family fun day event which allows you to get ‘behind the scenes’ and gain unique insight and knowledge of how the blue light services work in partnership to protect you and the community.
All proceeds raised from the show are donated to charities connected with the blue light services. In September last year, approximately 10,000 people attended, and as a result of that, cheques totaling over £17,000 were presented to 15 charities. These charities included the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, South-West volunteer Search & Rescue Teams, ‘Caring 4 Kids’ campaign and the Bobby Van Trust to name a few. Since the show started back in 2005, over £42,000 has been donated to charity.
The show gets bigger and better every year and with an action packed line-up of RTC (road traffic collision) and rescue demonstrations, fire engine and police car rides, the regional police dog trials and lots more.....it's not to be missed!
Committee Chairman and Founder Chris Harvey has said about the planning of this year's show: “I never cease to be amazed by the show's popularity year on year. It is organised by a small voluntary committee who work tirelessly to provide members of the public with an event that is not only magnificent, but fantastic value for money as a family day out. The show attracts people of all ages and has plenty for everyone to see and do. We are currently working on a line-up of attractions to exceed last year's record turnout and success, so make sure that you keep up to date by regularly checking the ‘latest news’ section. We very much look forward to welcoming you to this year's show. Plus, with demand on the emergency services resources at an all time high for the Olympics next year, the show has decided to take a break in 2012, so we are encouraging you to make the most of what's on offer this year!”

Heritage Open Days 2011
Each year, the Heritage Open Days scheme arranges for a number of properties across the U.K. that are either generally closed to the public, to open their doors and for others to waive their admission charges for the day.
In previous years, buildings that opened in the Trowbridge area included Trowbridge Town Hall and the Blind House. Members of the Trowbridge Civic Society often help out as guides, so volunteers are welcomed.
You can find further details in the local press or from mid July, visit the Heritage Open Days Website.
