Paxcroft Mead News
The Mead Club had a very good Christmas with the New Year “Gypsy” event being particularly successful.
This year the Club intends to make improvement to the bar making it easier to manage. They have already re-hung the cellar door making it easier for bar staff to access the cellar. The fittings will be changed over the coming months to give a whole new look and feel to the bar area. The rest of the Social Club area will also be tidied up with unnecessary fittings removed.
The Mead Club is planning some special events for the Queen' forthcoming Diamond Jubilee at the beginning of June. If you would like to suggest particular activities or help out, please contact Bob Edwards (Chairman) at the Club during opening hours.
The Community Centre continues to go from strength to strength. Careful management of the centre over the last few years has meant that the Centre finances are now in good shape. Evidence of this is shown by the recent purchase of new flooring in the main hall and completely replacing the chairs.
The committee would like to thank George Dowd who came forward to volunteer as temporary cleaner to cover Alison's enforced sick leave. Alison has been unwell for some time now and we send her our best wishes for a full recovery.
The Committee is starting to plan the Annual General Meeting of the Management Committee. The AGM gives residents the chance to come along and see how we are getting along, view the accounts and if they so wish, to stand for election to the Management Committee. There are currently a number of vacancies on the committee, so if you are interested in joining in, you would be most welcome.
Committee duties are not particularly onerous and apart from the officers, most members help out with ‘meet and greets’ for Centre hirers and help out with the more simple building maintenance tasks. If you are interested, residents are always welcome at the monthly committee meeting which is generally held on the first Wednesday of each month (8th February this month!). If you would like further information, please make contact with Chris Hicks, our Secretary by email at secretary@paxcroftmead.org.uk
Paxcroft Mead continues to enjoy very low levels of crime. The following report covers the month up to 10th January.
In the Trowbridge Rural area (covering the Hilperton part of the estate) there were 58 crimes, but only 6 of these were in Paxcroft Mead. There were five thefts from vehicles in Newhurst Park and Cresswell Drive; most these were vehicles that were not secure/locked. The other was a domestic anti-social behaviour issue.
The Trowbridge part of the estate falls under the Adcroft and Paxcroft Beat area which is managed by Jodie Price. In the whole area there were a total of 69 crimes of which only 4 were this estate. There was one incidence of anti-social behaviour in Parsonage Road, a break-in at the site office off Ferris Way, one breach of a court order and a suspicious incident.
The neighbour beats are now combined into a single group for determining Neighbourhood priorities, although my area of Trowbridge Rural remains separate. Tasking meetings are held regularly to determine where Police resources should be directed.
ADVICE TO RESIDENTS: Please make sure you keep your cars locked with valuables out of sight.

New Exhibition
Sprinting in to Trowbridge Museum on Saturday 11th February will be our latest exhibition ‘Trowbridge Sporting heroes and a history of the Olympics’
The exhibition will briefly chart the Olympics origins in Ancient Greece, the earliest recorded Games being in 776 BC, but it will very much have local slant.
There will be plenty of material about Trowbridge's sporting talent and from all sports backgrounds including football, snooker, table tennis as well as those who are involved in sports with a more direct link to the Olympics. We will also be revealing some of the town's current Olympic hopefuls.
The exhibition will acknowledge the cultural dimension to the Games and will celebrate Trowbridge's literary talent ranging from the poet George Crabbe to children's author and illustrator Alan Snow.
Families will get the chance to rise to our indoor Olympic Challenge on Thursday 16th February as part of our Half-term fun. The games to master will include Hopscotch, Bagatelle, Shove halfpenny, Hoopla and Skittles.
The exhibition is being opened by our very own Victorian athlete (see picture) splendidly dressed in traditional running costume and the Mayor of Trowbridge Councillor Nick Blakemore at 12 noon on Saturday 11th February.
