Paxcroft Mead News

Community Centre News

It is all go at the Community Centre at the moment. Having recently renewed all the chairs, the Committee is continuing to improve the Centre for its users.

New floor cleaning equipment has been purchased which will make the mail hall floor easier to clean, and will also provide the means to keep the kitchen and toilets floors much cleaner. Arrangement have also been made to clean the foyer and the Mead Club carpets.

BT Infinity 2 broadband has also been installed to provide users with enhanced facilities. This facility will make the Centre more attractive to business hirers, so should pay for itself in time.

In the first week of July we are replacing the front door and the Mead Club door and windows. These will be installed to match the existing window/door frames, but will be much more secure and draughtproof.

Additional tables are also on order which will allow us to accept seated bookings of around 120 people, making the Centre much more attractive for all types of bookings.

Other plans under consideration are to re-vamp the main kitchen and to apply for Hallmark status for the Centre. The Hallmark scheme is run by the Wiltshire Village Halls Association (of which we are a member) and defines the standards that hirers can expect when hiring their Village Hall.

Learn to play the keyboard

Have you ever thought “I wish I had learnt to play an instrument when I was younger” or perhaps “I wish I hadn't given up playing”?

It's never too late to start playing or to refresh your skills; the Keyboard Club is aimed at adults who would like to start to play the keyboard or perhaps restart again after a break.

Starting in September 2012, the club provides weekly sessions for adults, each of an hour's duration. Learning in groups of three or four, the emphasis is on learning within a supportive, friendly and interactive atmosphere. Keyboards are provided for these sessions.

There will be a free taster session at Paxcroft Mead Community Centre on Wednesday 18th July from 6 - 9pm – please drop in at any time.

To find out more about the Keyboard Club, please visit www.keyboard-club.co.uk, email mail@keyboard-club.co.uk or telephone Nick on 07768 010915.

New Trowbridge Campus

Have your say on the Trowbridge area community Campus

July sees the start of a major consultation on the Trowbridge campus.

The idea of a campus is to bring a number of services and facilities together in one building or a series of buildings. This means people can access a variety of local services, such as council services, partners, e.g. the police, or community services. In Trowbridge, a campus could mean new leisure facilities and services.

As the County Town the Trowbridge Campus will also draw people from a wider area. The purpose of the campus is to significantly improve what it is on offer to the community.

For full details and how to respond to the consultation click here.
